The Public Learning Media Laboratory produces tools that adhere to an internal rubric. Two themes run throughout all our productions. Firstly, our toolsets are designed to build upon how we believe children learn, and secondly, designed to maximize impact.
GleanGlean is designed to teach learners about how to derive meaning from data and graphs. The technology helps learners construct datasets from live web data, such as temperature, social or demographic data, or other data available on the web. The tool captures data daily, and provides access to the resultant graph. The educational engine further provides the ability to mashup multiple datasets to help learners compare graphs, for instance, temperature from two locations (close to the sea, and further inland, or the relative population growth of two countries) in realtime. Glean is being tested and prepared for a general public release. Please let us know if you would like to participate in testing! |
